If you are a frustrated Linux user and BlackBerry is one of the only few things that's keeping you going all Linux or you are simply tired using a Windows emulator just because you need to sync your BlackBerry with your PC try out Linberry as a good alternative for BlackBerry Desktop Manager on Ubuntu or another Linux-based operating system.

Along with Mac and Windows which were the only operation systems supported by RIM's BBDM, now you can enjoy the desktop client for Linux as well.

Linberry - Features & Functions

Linberry was released as an Alpha build back in 2010 and currently it's presented in Beta stage. With Linberry 1.1b1a you can:

  • Perform backups of your BlackBerry device
  • Manage contacts & apps
  • Use your BlackBerry as a modem

Even though it's expected to work with all BlackBerry devices, Linberry has only been tested for:

  • Blackberry Curve 8310
  • Blackberry Gemini 8520
  • Blackberry Javelin 8900
  • Blackberry Bold 9000
  • Blackberry Bold 9650

Linberry in English?

Not yet! A very important note is that This Software is only in Spanish Language, at this moment! The developers hope to add multilingual support beginning with the English language very soon, so meanwhile if you feel like is getting hard with the Spanish interface you may want to use Google Translate. Download Linberry from here.

BlackBerry Backup Extractor compatible with Linux!

Our BlackBerry Backup Extractor software is also compatible with Linux (using Mono or Wine) so there is no need to worry. The BlackBerry Backup Extractor can recover contacts, call histories, SMS and MMS, calendars, memos, app files, saved games, BBM conversions and data that might otherwise be inaccessible.

If you are a Linux fan you will certainly say “Kudos to the devs behind the Linberry project!” as you will now enjoy BBDM features using Linberry platform, but is this a good alternative? Will we see some kind of DM for Linux with full OS-update capabilities when BB10 will be revealed?
